Is the let-off too close? Or the repetition lever upstop screw adjusted to 
close?

If they are, then once the string is struck and is oscillating, the hammer 
will be brought
to within the envelope of this undulation upon repetition or repetition 
lever lift after check-in.

Also, if the wippen assist springs are too high, that will cause problems 
as well.
