An interesting story lies behind this statement actually (according to our one an only Steinway rep here in Norway) . S&S Hamburg has traditionally used Renner hammers for time on end. But for a period of
time not soooo very long ago... (15 - 20 years ?) Renner started making their hammers in a new fashion which resulted in harder hammers. Seems that Steinway didnt like that stuff (hit young Rockie in the
eye) and when they required of Renner to supply them with the hammers they were used to, Renner replied something to the effect that Renner didnt need Steinway telling them how to make hammers.

This of course pleased Steinway even less, so they switched over to Abel hammers. Abel of course was only too pleased to oblige and Renner got caught with their proverbial tongue wagging loosely out of the
left side of their mouths. This arrangement lasted about two and a half years as the story goes before Renner decided that the old addage "The customer is always right" indeed had some worthwhile
meaning...... at least in this regard.

When Renner agreed to meet the Hamburg Steinway specifications...they got their contract back.
