This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment Diane Have you tried scraping the surface with a razor blade? This technique = is often used to level poly repairs. Very "controllable". Works much the = same as a cabinet scraper but in miniature. I sand the corners of the = blade round to prevent them from digging. When the surface is leveled = you might try padding some shellac over it to restore the luster. ----- Original Message -----=20 From: Diane Hofstetter=20 To: pianotech@ptg.org=20 Sent: Saturday, June 23, 2001 2:51 PM Subject: S&S plate touch up? List, I guess we should feel flattered..........she wants to keep all the = tuner's signatures from over the years, she even knows where each one = is, and is especially concerned about one of my competitor's = signatures.......... I have most of the plate looking good, but there were three pieces of = tape (my guess) that left their marks on the plate right near the = nosebolt and cooling holes, and next to the words "Steinway = Foundry....and Tubular......" . I have tried : citrus cleaner, mineral = spirits, denatured alcohol, metal polish, steel wool, light sanding, = painting............... HELP! please? I got scared when sanding, afraid I would get too deep and have no = finish left, but maybe I chickened out too soon? Thanks in advance for any tips!
