This is not as uncommon as you might think.  Sometimes the longer bolts are
needed for the lyre and sometimes for the rear leg.  Your movers have to
know where the longer bolts go.  Even some Baldwin have different bolt
lengths.  

I agree, there is no need for this, make them all the same length by setting
up the attachments well.
