Hi Phil. Brian and several others got it right on. I service a Steck with such an arrangement. Many Aeolean grands also have the exact same arrangement. I was looking pretty dumb at a piano teachers home one time when she said "could it be these little thingees in the ends?" Just the other day I spent a good half-hour trying to get a 1930s Chickering console open - the ones with the four legs. Goofiest arrangement I have ever seen!
