Thanks all for suggestions.  As it turns out, the upper leg support is =
glued to the bottom of the key bed with a few screws going through it.  =
Once the screws were removed, several hard blows with a rubber mallet =
broke the joint free revealing the bottom nut of the carriage bolt and =
thus avoiding the dreaded carjack torture test.
