piano tipper

The piano tipper may not fit in most cars, but it fit in my old Chevette
hatchback with the back seat folded down, and it fits in my Subaru wagon
with seat folded down -- made sure of that before I bought the car. I don't
usually bother tying the piano with a strap unless it's on a hard floor like
linoleum, hardwood, concrete, etc., where the wheels can roll easily and it
could slip away. Big uprights are easy to tip 'cause they're top-heavy and
you don't need much leverage, but I do have to fasten some spinets &
consoles with the strap so I can stand back farther to get more leverage on
the tipping handles. Be careful of people's hardwood floors -- sometimes
you have to put down cardboard or plywood so as not to make wheel tracks in
the floor. But I agree with others that you don't need a tipper to restring
a bass section. --Dave Nereson, RPT
