Hi John,
               Using dag is just plain messy, it is also hygroscopic (
attracts moisture) so DON'T use it on these points.  I have been using
parafine wax for years with great results for string rendering.  It will
stay where you put it and the film prevents rust.  Ideal in your Maritime
climate.
Guess you were not sleeping in my string class.  <G> gee you had me fooled
again.
