Tom & Joe,

When I've tried this technique (with a lot of success), I've noticed the =
visible vibration in the wound string. I was thinking that this would lo=
osen a lot of built up dust and corosion in the windings themselves. It =
also seems to me that a demonstration of this technique in the customer's=
presence would be a great way to point out the need for a new set of bas=
s strings in a worthy instrument. I've made several marginal clunkers so=
und a lot better by doing this and the customers love me for it.

PS I got the idea on this list, from somebody....???

Hi Tom,
In lowering (a lot) and raising the wound strings, the contact points of
winding and wire change moving away from the corrosion creating some what=
 of
a cleaner contact of winding and wire on the return to pitch.
