Hi Les, you wrote: > When using AC power, the > > pickup hears the 50 Hz (de)polarisations too- resulting in 50Hz and > > all its partials being present). > Is this true for TL as well? It depends on your computers powersupply - usually laptops have limited space, so often, the needed filters are not integrated in the powersupply's circuitry. Adding a condenser yourself may result in a blown up powersupply (and/or heavily damaged computer) Magnetic pickups have a tendency to amplify any irregularites from the powersource. All kinds of things happen in ACpowergrids. Fluctuations, powersurges, pulses intended for controlling boilers, etc. Usually a ferrite ring arround the power cable usually does the trick, but with a magnetic pick up it's a diffirent thing. A good ground connection isn't enough. Think of it as a guitar pickup. If you're using a powersupply with insufficient filters, you won't get rid of that 50-60 hz noise.
