    My experience has been that usually a hammer traveling in an =
unstraight line is the result of a flange/centerpin problem.
    Theoretically, if you have a piano and all 88 hammers are traveling =
straight, you should be able to change the hammers and/or the shanks =
without having to burn or travel them.
    A common problem is that when the manufacturer drills the birdseye, =
the drill bit tends to bend under the torque and the hole is not =
perfectly straight.
    Many thanks to Ray Chandler and his wonderful class on ABS styrene =
flanges.  I have saved myself a lot of stress since then. =20
