pitch fluctuations on ETD's

I have observed "opposite effects" also on occasion.   I have a string in my
piano that TuneLab will show sharp for half a second, steady (in tune) for 2
seconds, flat for 2 seconds, then back up to in tune, then a little sharp.
    Other stings waver back and forth between sharp, intune and flat.  I presume
this might be a "sour string" or one with a "false beat".
