Hi terry, I purchased a Palm IIIxe about a year ago, and had my brother set up my programs. He did most of it from his office, over the internet, and with my back-up disc from my computer. He has, over the years, set up my entire system, and I'm greatly indebted to him. It pays to have somebody who knows what they are doing with computers. Anyway, after he got it all set up, it wouldn't work. I discovered that the palm needed to be held with a little pressure, down and to the left, into the cradle as I start the hotsync process. I do it this way everyday, works fine. Hope this is your problem to.
