When I began tuning for the very first time I used ETDs all the time. (I worked for a store as a 'student' tuner when I was in my teens.) Then I went out on my own, but couldn't afford an ETD so I learned the aural method. Over the years I've developed my own system. Now that I could afford one if I wanted, I can't justify the cost/benefit ratio. If I were doing concert tunings where stage crews were testing sound equipment at the same time (I dealt with that ONCE!) then I'd get myself and ETD with the acoustic pickup.
