This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment Hi Jon, I'd like to see any photo you have of this piano. What exactly = are you doing to the counter bearing? I have one that is a little older. = I like the bass, but the treble is a little weak at the high end. Last = few notes before stepping onto the bass bridge have the usual thoinky = kind of sound, would really like to get rid of that. I guess most = uprights have a similar problem here. Why do you feel you get = better results with a fan arrangement rather than parallel ribs, varying their spacing = and properties? =20 Phil F =20 =20 The 1893 M&H Screwstringer upright currently in my shop has an = interesting grain and cutoff bar application. =20 The grain runs about 90=B0 to the bridge in the tenor section (42=B0 = to the bottom; as viewed from the back) The ribs run roughly 27=B0 to the grain through this section (69=B0 = to the bottom). The cutoff bar(s) form a sort of a tear-drop shape encompassing the = main board/bridge area. I can send a jpg of it to anyone interested. =20 I am hopeful to the improvement in tone that repairing the split rib = and the loose board over the cutoff bar as well as eliminating the 0 counterbearing in the high treble. I replaced the = stripped screws in the counterbearing bar with longer ones. =20 =20 =20 Regards, =20 Jon Page, piano technician Harwich Port, Cape Cod, Mass. mailto:jonpage@mediaone.net http://www.stanwoodpiano.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~=20 ---------------------- multipart/alternative attachment An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
