Open face vs. closed face pin blocks

So how difficult would it be to turn a covered-block plate into an 
open face plate? Put a metal-cutting blade into the Sawz-all and cut 
out the rectangle, right? Does anybody have a Steinway grand they'd 
like to donate for this experiment?
