Hi Robert. That was my initial response, and I even think I managed to project a bit too much "catastrophy" to the lady who just dropped 10,000 NOK to pay for the job. My good freind Odd Aanstad, RPT Stockholm / Oslo, suggests 435 as well. But just about everyone else says to check the scale and see if its low enough tension to lessen the concern. That really makes sense, but I have a suspicion that the fellow just put brand new modern string material on in the same gauges as origional. That would make me think that 435 would even be a bit high. On the other hand the thing already sounds a bit on the "tuby" side, especially in the lower tenor and the lowest bass. Droping pitch will exhasperate that situation... or what ? Anyways I guess it will have to last a few more days. I got like 80 instruments I have to have tuned by Monday..... or at least by the end of the month. Fall start up is always loads of fun aint it ? Its been well 30 years since I was there last and boy how things have changed. Only the Silver City Saloon remains and it looks like they are ready to rip that down. I couldnt believe those "Theme" hotels.... what a trip. > Definitely no more than A-435.
