Michael: The only way I know, and have done, is to carefully cut out the inner rim which overhangs the plate creating the "mortise", using a fine blade in a reciprocal saw. When you're done with the repairs and have the plate back in, glue back the cut out pieces and refinish as usual. Be aware that the pinblock is also mortised to the sides and rabbeted to the stretcher, and that the corners of the rim at the stretcher are separate pieces which can come off with care. PR-J
