Hi Dave,

To locate the optimum action spread measure the up and down weight, move the
rail and remeasure.  When you find the measurement that produces the smallest
difference you have located the best spread.

Also there should be marks on the rail showing the original position.

I would be willing to bet $5.00 to a doughnut that the capstans are mislocated.
