OK, I've got it now.

I screwed up the last set of measurements - if I had half a brain, I'd be
dangerous. The coffee is working now, and I'm up to a full half a brain, so
I tried something else that actually seems to have worked.

Make that string track 0.005" deep in the center, and 0.012" at the edge.
