However, now that I saw your picture and have a better idea of what you are attempting, you could also insert the barrels into a small piece of wood. A 1/4" dowel would work if you have a drill press. Have you considered popping the flange off the rail and removing the broken screw? This would not destroy the damper wire. Maybe it's just time for a new Renner USA back action.
