Or my daughter's education or my mortgage or...

My lawyer is able to stretch things a bit if I sign for it. 
He won't lie and I won't either but there is some stretch
pointng going on.

He is culpable.  No problem there.  His insurance lawyer and
mine have to come to some agreement which I approve of.  I
am hoping his insurance will make an offer I cannot refuse
to shorten the process.  What's not culpable?  Hitting a
legally) blind man in a legal cross walk with a legal
light?  Not that I ain't stretching a point...
