Hi Ron, I've noticed this also on most all Yamaha grands that I see coming to Orford Art Center every summer. I suspect the stuff is ground brass that came from the lid locator pin moving it's female counterpart during transport. I'm not sure about this one but this is the only logical reason for that stuff to be there. Marcel Carey, RPT Sherbrooke QC
