Thank you Stan, You've reminded me of a few more benefits. Hanging around backstage gives us the opportunity to get to know the musicians and the backstage crew. Not only have I gained many friends (and LOTS of referrals this way), we've learned mutual respect for each other's needs getting ready for the concert. The members of the orchestra and the backstage crew work with me as much as possible, especially during those crunch times when I'm having to prepare the piano(s) before the A.M. rehearsal, the band wants to warm up, and time is limited for us all. Being at rehearsals has tremendously improved my respect for the musicians. It's given me the opportunity to learn the difference between good and not so good conductors. Watching, hearing, them refine a piece of music is an incredible experience. These people know when they need to improve and they do it. That's what rehearsals are for. The downside is that it makes it difficult for me, as it does for them, when reading a review by a critic who has no concept of how hard these talented people have worked to make the music truly enjoyable. (That's why I rarely read reviews anymore.) Back to self-indulgence, as an example hearing live performances of the Rachmaninoff 3rd four times, each better than before, makes it all worthwhile. :-) Gina ----- Original Message ----- From: <JStan40@AOL.COM> To: <pianotech@ptg.org> Sent: Friday, October 06, 2000 9:00 PM Subject: Re: Concert attendance > And, Gina and List, every musician on that stage knows you are there and is > cognizant of your concern, your professionalism and the love you have for the > music that they are performing..........having been a member of such an > orchestra, and having a strong interest in the pianotech area, I made it a > point to get to know the techs who serviced the stage pianos.
