tacks

    re:   tacks in hammers:  We used to put tacks in the hammers of our
Hobart M. Cable console when I was a kid. We took them back out, but of
course dropped a few down the action.  The next time the tuner came, he
told my mom and she chewed me out, but now, 40 years later, I have filed
the hammers, regulated, and tuned that piano, and it's fine.  What's a
couple little sticks with the point of a thumbtack?   --Dave N.
