String splicing

Hi Ric,
There are three knots that I am aware of that can be used to splice piano
wire. Two are the mirror image-backwards of the other, well not quite.
The square knot is tied (with string) by placing the two strings one on top
of the other (ie left on top) and going left over and under then right over
and under. In tieing wire to get the square, the loops must face in opposite
directions when held with the loop end held up and the tail of the loop
oriented on the same side of the wire
The Granny knot ( the one some use to tie shoes) In tieing piano wire the
loops will face the same direction when held as described above.
The third knot may be the sheep shank knot as someone has posted, but anyway
it uses the loop as the above knots have on the speaking length and
a shephards crook loop on the splice end. I like to put a bend in both of
the wires of the crook so that it is easier to pass both the waiste end and
end that will be going in the tuning pin.
