Hi Kristinn,
Another helpfull technique to add to Gina's suggestion, is
to use the Sustenudo pedal. No I'm not crazy, depress the note, then quick
double hit the note as you are tuning.
this will really move a string and help a great deal in rendering.
A friend of mine had a problem with a particularly heavy concert pianist,
that was playing a Shostakovich concerto, with no time to tune between
rehearsal and performance, just unison touch up. The piano was tuned
through out, using this technique, prior to the rehearsal, after the
instrument was moved 150 miles. No big suprise the piano was still
presentably playable.
It sounds as if the bearing points need lubrication, but I would not
recommend doing this on the day of a concert.
Further I do not recommend tuning a piano often in the above manner,
remember the gospel players that break strings because of over damper pedal
use.
