David Pritchard:
There was an unusual Acrosonic built in 1936 and 1937. The whole top of the
piano comes off in one piece. Hidden on the under side are two friction
spring clips close to the cheek blocks. Somehow you grasp the cabinet near
the end of the black keys, by the nameboard felt and lift upward. You will
hear and feel the spring clips let loose. Now pull forward slightly and the
whole top comes off.

Now you will see how to lift up the top board. Now exposed, remove the two
tiny screws at each end and top hinges upward. On this model there are no
screws under rubber buttons.

David, you said your Acrosonic had no hinges in back. On the model described
here there are top hinges. This may or may not be the model you have
encountered.
