Gordon Do the benches have a large brass "nut" on each side of the height adjustment shaft? If so, check to see if the threads are worn. I replaced a set of those bushings and it removed almost all of the rocking motion of the bench. I was able to purchase the right hand threaded part from Schaff, but the left hand threaded one I had to make. This was more than 10 yrs back, so I don't know what's available for parts. That mechanism has seen some "improvements" since then. BTW the machined part cost about $75.00 to have made. Maybe Jansen will sell you a new scissors mechanism. They're nice to do business with, so give them a try.
