Thanks for sending the .jpg along.  A picture says a lot.

Paul,

I'm still pondering this one.  I kind of agree with you that it's a lot of
'putzing' around for the sake of building a rim.

I wonder if it wouldn't be easier, quicker, and maybe even better to seal
the bottom of those kurfs, face the inside surface, and fill 'er up with
some type of epoxy.??  At least it would be solid, hard, and without voids.

I'm still thinkin' about this one...
