Perhaps air conditioners work differently in AZ. :-)
 But in most of Floridas' air conditioners moisture 'is' removed from the air 
being conditioned.........this happens as warm moist air is passed over the 
condensing coils/baffles cooling it significantly and causing the entrained 
moist air to lose some of its moisture..... as, in the act of cooling, a.k.a. 
heat transfer,, condensation forms and drains away from the unit via the drip 
tube/drain line......................... thus humidity in the air conditioned 
spaces is changed both in 'absolute' humidity (entrained moisture per liter 
of air) and 'relative' humidity (percentage of moisture vis a vis 
temperature).
At least that is the way it works in Florida :-)
