Hammer butt under felt question

Kevin,
If you mean the felt under the buckskin and the buckskin as being the two 
pieces, the answer is : the felt under the skin provides a coushin for the 
jack.  Also, the buckskin  won't get hard from any glue if the felt is 
underneath.
