Chickering plate screws

Dear List,
Many of you have had experience with this piano on other unusual problems
I've had, so...... I am pulling a plate on an 1883 Chickering 6'8" grand.
All is usual except two "screws" without slots. On the upper plate webbing
near the pinblock, there are two round-topped things that are holding the
plate down. They have no slots and are not visible from underneath. Are
these nails? I cannot pry them up and they definitely appear to be holding
the plate. They are near the pinblock, but not in the very corner. They
appear to be attached to the shelf that the rim/block sits on. Emergency
advise desperately needed. Thanks!
