Check out the local wood carvers. Some have extensive experience with
carving a verity of woods and can recommend one type of chisel over another.
There may be a local wood carvers supply company. I frequent one in the Twin
Cities and ask my naive questions and get some very clear answers. The sales
staff seem to enjoy helping someone in a related trade.
