That fastener fooled me too, but it is really quite simple.
Just push the center pin all the way thru and the rest will come out easy.
Then after you change the battery just reassemble it. The center pin acts as
a lock.
I'd make sure to keep the old battery connected until the new one is
installed in order to keep power on the machine to avoid loss of memory.  I
love me SATII!
