It goes real well. (I'm sorry, and appologize for not being clearer on my original post. I was thinking of unison tuning on the top notes, not tuning them to lower notes.) Blocking the sound from the undamped strings, blocks the sympathetic vibration of the octave harmonic. That harmonic is almost the frequency of the unison one is trying to tune, but not quite.
