Hi Rob, When I was learning this trade the workshop I was employed by used Suzuki piano wire among others. It is definately Japanese but I don't know if this is what Yamaha and Kawai use. Also I don't know if this is the only Japanese producer of wire. Geez I don't know much do I? By the way, the stuff is oily, (or used to be - I don't use it these days) awful to do a stringing job with but otherwise seemed OK to me at the time. I use Roslau blue and have done for several years now with no problems. I re-strung a Yamaha G5 recently and it sounded as good to me as a new model with whatever string wire they use.
