We often use Howard Restor-a-finish. And some of their related products.
Quite dramatic what they can do to old finishes.

And after the finish has set, Guardsman Polishes available at furniture
stores, and some dept. stores. No waxes.

It's work, but an old upright that looks good jumps many hundreds in
value, and invested might be $5 - 10 in materials, and a couple hours
careful labor. My wife does that part. We sell good old uprights
technically tight (new hammers)and looking good for 900 - 1500, original
finishes.
