Dear Ron and other "fish"
I am not aware of any pins currently being nickle plated "over cut threads".
This was a distinct problem in the late sixtys and early seventies but has
since been rectified by most manufacturers. All the nickle plated pins I use
are "nickle plated/blued threads" ........meaning the pins are plated first
and the the threads are cut afterward. As for not wanting Threads that have
been finished with anything"....... rust does promote more rust and non blued
threads will rust inside the pinblock....not very quickly, but they do as I
have removed many non blued pins from blocks that showed rust along the
length of the pin.
The problematical concerns about appearance is one of taste I suppose if you
live in an area of moderate humidity, but here in Florida nickle plated pins
have a distinct advantage over blued pins.
Whatever else....... the main thing is to use what you feel is best for the
piano, yourself and your customer :-)
