I would only be concerned if the pitch change went from 440 to 460 or almost 3/4 semi-tone. The pitch or cents is not as important as is breaking % and elastic limit. If you are approaching 80 B% you run the risk of breaking strings. If the strings are old and on a high tension scale then coming close to 70 B% puts strings at risk. I think the quote above is a misquote or misunderstanding. NOT understanding some about scaling, tension, breaking %, inharmonicity, friction and the relationship between cents, Hz or B% places yourself at string breakage risk. Understanding something of these factors gives you more flexibility to do what you want to do without the risk. Newton
