> it STILL manages to pull on the backcheck when the the left pedal is depressed It is far more likely that the touch weight is far too light on this piano and the keys are following the wippen which raises when the butt moves. Try putting some weights on some of the keys to see the result. If this is the case then put weights on end keys of a section and adjust the bridle wire so it just becomes taut when the hammer is 1/2 the distance to the strings from rest. Do this at each section end. Next push the hammer rail as far forward as it will go and bend the bridle wires so backchecks are in a straight line (assuming they are in a straight line from your regulation). Finally put limiting blocks on the hammer rail so the rail can only go 1/2 the distance from rest to string. It is unlikely that the tapes are stiff unless someone has made them so with glue but the tabs certainly are likely to be stiff, friable or gooey. IF they're not broke don't fix 'em. The stress on the material is very light. If some are or have been broken or replace then replace the set not just one or two. Newton
