One good reason to tighten plate bolts is to find bolts that are stripped (or rather, the hole is stripped). While this should be a small fraction of 1% of the store's stock, it is important that this is dealt with in the store, not the customer's home. Over the years I have encountered this problem in a couple of Kawai grands, and more recently on a Hyundai. Patrick
