Removal of the action is not needed!!!
Do as Brian suggests or get my handy-dandy screw starter.
The compressed action that you are working on ( I am assumin' here )
is a little troublesome to start the screw but usually on the second time,
after droping the screw and getting it with the magnet, I can just barely
get the screw to hold in the hole while the jack is raised and the flange
screwdriver bit placed in the screw slot.
