Terry;
 This is not just a "newbie" question we all get asked it.
When I was 24 the question was "Aren't you kinda young to be tuning pianos?"
When I was 34 the question was "Is tuning pianos all you do?"
When I was 44 the question was "Have you been doing this long?"
When I was 54 The question was "Would you like a cup of coffee?"
Now the question is "How much!!!??"
 I love it.............. wouldn't do anything else :-)

 To answer your question directly though......unexpanded honesty is best...in
other words if you have been tuning 3 years then say three years but don't
add that you have only tuned 28 pianos for paying customers...or whatever
fits here :-) If the customer is unhappy with your answer then you will just
have to earn their trust with good work just as I and everyone else has to do
ultimately...................

  If the customer insists on an answer as to length of tuning time... you can
always fall back on Ron Nossmans soliloquy of 'Well just about ever since I
started'.  :-))
