Sigh...

It's 'Ecsaine.'  A product of the Japanese company, Toray.  Toray
manufacturers a variety of synthetic ultra-microfiber fabrics.  This one is
more commonly encountered as 'Ultrasuede.'  It is really quite a good
material, outperforming buckskin in many ways.
