Broken screw in Steinway hammer rail

John,

Cutting a slot in the shank is a good idea but if that fails, there is a 
screw extractor
which is a small hole saw. This cuts the wood around the screw, plug the 
hole, redrill,
etc . . .

I hate it when that happens,
