I think that scarlet would look just fine. However, a local rebuilder here [Bernard Mollberg, my boss;)] dyes all of his scarlet felt to a deep burgundy (sp?) and uses it on both NA and Ebony grands. Looks really good too. BTW, my personal asthetic pet-peave is chrome plated tuning pins. So many rebuilders like to use chrome plated pins on turn-of- the-century grands. Yuck! Chrome tuning pins looks great in a new Yamaha with a High-Gloss polyester finish, but they look TACKY TACKY TACKY in a restored Victorian Steinway. On the same topic (asthetics). I kinda like the chrome plated plate bolts for modern Steinways. In fact, I ordered all new chrome plated bolts for my 1890 Steinway B, and it looks so much better than its old peeling gold painted bolts. Yeh, I contradicted my own pet-peave by switching to chromed bolts, but I felt that the improved functionality of non-painted bolt heads outweighed the "historic" accuracy. (Even stripped and repainted properly, painted bolts don't snug down as easily for me). Cheers, Brian Henselman, RPT -----Original Message----- From: Matthew J.
