Tied bass string, will it break?

Richard,
I have tied many strings on pianos where a new string isn't an option
for one reason or another. The older the string (piano) the more likely the
tie will not work. When string loses it's elasticity or gets rusty you'll be
fighting a losing battle. I'm suprised only one broke.
I'd say try it explaining to the customer that this may not work and a
new string may be necessary. It won't take long to see.
    Dennis
