Well, yes, that's true.  Try 8 or more.  Odd plies counter each other
when they warp negating the stress.  Two, four and maybe even six tend
to delaminate because of encountered warp stresses.

ANything over eight is moot.

Maybe someone with a more extensive knowledge of wood and their stress
patterns will comment.
