Hi Bill,
Sounds to me like she has described the plastic insert dowel (my technical
term). Connects the pedal dowel, which this small part slips into, to the
wooden or medal arm that is connected to the pedal on the opposite end.
I really have to get that book that tells one the correct names of all the
piano parts.
